We had a plan. A good plan. Nothing better than a Friday night seeing Shawn Mendes, right? And it started out well enough…Dinner downtown at Katsuya (Thank you Mrs. Orlando!) and then into Staples Center for some music.
Alessia Cara was incredible…Her stage presence, her energy and of course her songs. Then Annie and I went out to stock up on some water and…well suddenly Staples was shaking and NOT from the amazing music…
See the giant rose? Yeah, THAT was shaking. And while I don’t really look forward to experiencing an earthquake ANYWHERE — at a concert, with 20,000 people and big lights and equipment — is definitely in the do not enter zone….
So once the shaking (well, it was more like a rolling) stopped (and we all checked in with our parents), we had to decide whether to stay or go…Shawn Mendes or the safety of our cozy beds?
So what would you have done?
We stayed. After all, you can’t live your entire life with a “what if” something bad might happen. You can’t avoid things because you MIGHT get hurt. — physically or emotionally. All you can do is use your best judgment, surround yourself with good friends, and hope for the best. (Note: That does not mean you should do things you know are dangerous or responsible…PLEASE always be safe people!)
And it was worth it. Shawn was amazing, Lauren, Anna, Annie and I all had an experience we would never forget. Once we got home though, we realized how little we actually knew about what to DO in an Earthquake. So for those of you in an area that experiences Earthquakes there is a great article I read up on here. And chances are I you are not in an area with Earthquakes you are in an area with SOMETHING. So search, read up, and be smart. Oh, and go to Shawn Mendes if you have the chance!
